OS suit identification
Negative:
OS is not the suit lead
OS is not the trump suit
OS is not a suit headed with AKQ
OS is not a suti bid by declarer
OS is not a suit where dummy holds a singleton or void (two exceptions)
Exception no.1: all NT contracts
Exception no.2: dummy holds a singleton in a suit that leader's partner has bid
Positive (in this order):
OS is a suit bid (but not lead) by the leader
OS is a suit bid by leader's partner
If defenders didn't bid, then:
OS is a suit with list Honours (10 included); in NT contract it is dummy's shortest suit, no matter what holding
When two suits have equal number of Honours, then OS is the shorter suit
When two suits have equal number of Honours and equal length, then OS is lower ranking suit
To encourage the OS, we must hold:
Dummy
Jxx... A or K (or Q10... in NT)
Qxx... A or K
Kxx... A (or QJ in NT)
Axx... K or Q
suit bid by leader, and dummy's length suggests a singleton at leader's partner
